The online Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood & Family Studies gives you the skills and knowledge you need to make a difference in the lives of young children and their families. This innovative degree completion program prepares you to advance your career in a variety of growing fields, including education, social and mental health services, child care, and parent support and education.

The ECFS program features engaging online courses that have been custom designed by top faculty from the UW College of Education, who also teach in the program. The curriculum incorporates the latest theories and practices and includes opportunities for hands-on training using the latest technology.

Degree Requirements

The ECFS online degree program requires that students enter with at least 70 transferable quarter credits. The program course load represents two years of full-time study. Its expected that most students will finish their degree requirements in two to three years. Students must have a cumulative total of at least 180 credits to earn their bachelor's degree.

Program Format

All classes and course materials in the early childhood and family studies program are delivered completely online using leading technology. The program is structured as a flexible, cohort-based model, with students taking most courses in a cohesive group. The ECFS program is ideal for those already working in the early childhood field who want to expand their knowledge and expertise, including preschool teachers, daycare center employees and other childcare workers.
